VIM Mission Trip to NC March 1-9
Major natural disasters bring much media attention and an influx of volunteers. Poverty is another disaster that occurs around us but is often not addressed. Washington County in North Carolina has a poverty rate of 44.3 per cent brought on by the layoffs of hundreds of good jobs in the wood products industry in that area. The UMC of Plymouth has formed an organization called CROSS (Christians Reaching Out in Sacred Service) to help homeowners with maintaining and repairing their homes. Our Wisconsin VIM team will leave from Sun Prairie on March 1st for the two-day trip to Plymouth, NC. We will be housed in the Plymouth UMC which has showers and a kitchen for our use. We will be working on homes in the immediate vicinity. The team will take Wednesday afternoon off to visit some sites near Ablemarle Sound in Edenton with its rich history and historic southern homes.
COST: $445. This covers bus, food on work days, motels and donation towards materials. Cost for those driving on their own will be $225. Registration form and deposit due on Feb. 1, 2014
